When you think about Vanessa Fleury, the motto of her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. reflects the core of who she is and what she represents. "Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom," is really the perfect way to describe Vanessa. A native of Miami florida and a child of Haitian descent, Vanessa is product of her culture and has dedicated her life to the service of sustaining the growing the profile of that culture through hard work and a continued commitment to excellence.
Graduating from Cypress Bay High in 2005, Vanessa rushed into the University of North Florida in the fall of that year with a sense of purpose, joining the African American Student Union and becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta in 2007. She completed, not one, but two degrees in 2009 (a bachelors in International Studies and a bachelors in Communication/Public Relations). Since then, Vanessa has dedicated herself to a life of service, taking on various community outreach positions with companies until she decided to start her own non-profit agency, Carl's Village, in 2017. The Carl's Village agency was established to create sustainable pathways to academic success and self-empowerment for young people in Haiti.
Throughout her many travels Vanessa has remained indebted to UNF and its impact on her life and was enthusiastic about contributing to UNF Black Alumni Weekend and growing the brand through curating events like the Undergraduate/Alumni Networking Forum that she will be overseeing for BAW 2020.
